Safety Grant

EAST HOLMES FAMILIES:

The Holiday Season is here! The first semester is coming to a close. I know we could never have achieved such a successful school experience, both this year and last, without the unwavering support of our students’ families. Throughout the semester, you have helped your student with homework, juggled extracurriculars and personal commitments, navigated challenges and remained focused on your child’s education. The entire East Holmes Local School District team appreciates the hard work that goes into preparing your child for success in school. For all this, and so much more, we THANK YOU. Your role, never by us will be taken for granted, is a true blessing in the student, teacher and community partnership – so necessary in order to make education for our children a meaningful and worthwhile experience.

As we take leave for winter break, I have some very current and exciting news to share with you. This month East Holmes District was awarded $554,000 from the Ohio K-12 School Safety Grant Program. Our Board applied for the funds back in September. The Grant Application included a thorough safety vulnerability assessment which the State then used to determine how much money to allocate for our District.

The plan is to use the grant money for projects in all eight District schools. These improvements will include but not be limited to the following: new public announcement systems; security camera networks; window security film; improved door access controls; and district-wide GPS tracking technology for school buses. We are hopeful that much of the work will be completed by the beginning of the next school year. We are grateful for the opportunity to improve our safety and security measures throughout the District, as concern for student safety remains a top priority.

I look forward to seeing students return on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. I urge you to take the Christmas break as an opportunity to rest, celebrate and prepare your child to finish the school year strong.

THANK YOU for all you do every day to make East Holmes a truly unique community of families who care for children and each other.

My wish for you is a Joyful Christmas and a Good New Year,

 Erik H. Beun, Superintendent
