Synergy

Berlin Staff and students spend the first 8 days learning about leadership as it relates to the Leader in Me program.  The program integrates leadership principles into the school curriculum and provides students with tools to develop essential skills, including:

Student Leadership: The program views every student as a potential leader and encourages them to take responsibility for their actions, set goals, and work collaboratively with others. It helps students develop self-confidence and skills to make positive contributions to their school and community.

Personal Responsibility: The program promotes the idea that individuals have control over their reactions and choices, emphasizing the importance of taking proactive steps to shape one's own life.

Goal Setting: Students are taught to set clear and achievable goals for themselves. This includes both short-term academic goals and long-term personal goals.

Effective Communication: The program focuses on teaching students how to listen empathetically and communicate effectively with others. This is tied to the habit of "Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood."

Teamwork and Collaboration: The concept of synergy is introduced to help students understand the power of working together as a team to achieve more than what individuals can accomplish alone.

Continuous Improvement: The final habit, "Sharpen the Saw," teaches students the importance of taking care of their physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

The program encourages student empowerment, responsibility, and engagement. Teachers play a significant role in modeling these principles and coaching students to apply them in their academic work and personal lives.
